Why does Andy have a ROOM?

My Friends Have ROOMs

In My Jesus-Greg WORLD, the people in my life can have ROOMs.

The ROOM is an ordering device for my imagination and memory. It gives me somewhere to put the experiences, ideas, conversations, guidance, images, songs, jokes, discoveries, and spiritual impressions that become associated with a particular person over the years.

But I don't imagine Andy standing in this ROOM alone.

Matthew 25:38–40 gives me a way of experimenting with this idea: encountering another person can also become an encounter with Jesus. So instead of thinking that getting MORE Jesus always requires withdrawing from people to go looking for Him somewhere else, I can practice going toward people.

Andy is therefore not a distraction from my MORE Jesus experiment. My relationship with Andy can become part of the experiment.

A Relationship Memory Palace

Over time this ROOM can accumulate memories.

I might encounter an idea years from now and think:

The ROOM gives those memories a place to live. Instead of thousands of interactions floating around disconnected in my head, I can begin arranging them into a landscape.

The friendship becomes a chamber in the larger architecture of My Jesus-Greg WORLD.

The ROOM Will Grow

Each chamber gives me a place to preserve something that emerges from my relationship with Andy—and to imagine that relationship happening in the presence of Jesus.

As life happens, new memories, conversations, ideas, images, experiments, and discoveries can be placed into new chambers.

Andy's ROOM is only one ROOM.

Other friends can have their own ROOMs too—each one becoming a place where relationship, memory, imagination, and my search for MORE Jesus can accumulate over time.
