The MORE Jesus = More Reality Experiment
In the near future—and the future is already here for some people—AI, VR, and other technologies will increasingly give people new ways to express what is inside them.
Mark Twain had a remarkable gift for doing this with words. Huckleberry Finn allowed other people to see, however approximately, a world Twain could first see in his imagination.
The Apostles were doing something similar long before Mark Twain. They used the expressive technologies available to them—spoken testimony, stories, letters, symbols, and written accounts—to bring what was inside them into the world where other people could encounter it. They told us what they had seen, heard, experienced, remembered, and imagined (envisioned).
“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you.”
— 1 John 1:3
In a very real sense, scripture lets us enter another person's interior world and see something of what they saw.
Now tools for doing something similar are moving into the hands of almost everyone. For better or worse, we can increasingly show other people what we see inside ourselves—and even watch how that inner world changes over time.
This archive documents one such change in me.
Jesus is changing what I see when I go to church.
And part of the way that change happens is by making little pieces of art like these. I create an approximation of what I see with my sacred imagination, then I watch it again. In that sense, the art isn't merely documenting my changing worldview. It is helping train my mind to see it.
These are scenes from What I See When I Go to Church—small windows into my gradually reengineered world, where I am experimenting with seeing MORE Jesus in every scene of my life.
Scene 1 — EXODUS TO THE HOUSE OF GOD - - The first entry in the “What I See When I Go To Church” archive.
Scene 2 — THE CHAPEL DOORS — “Jesus is here.”
Scene 3 — THE PRETEND BILLBOARD — “If ye can do no more than desire to imagine...(Alma 32:27)”
This page is designed to grow. New scenes can be added below as the church world is revisited through sacred imagination.
