Wrought Upon Differently
CREATION OF A NEW *MEMORY PALACE ROOM* WITHIN THE JESUS-GREG WORLD
A Jesus-Greg WORLD thought piece on memory, being wrought upon, discernment, possession, agency, and the Jesus Show.
Oh, remember Christopher Columbus: the Book of Mormon says that “the Spirit of God came down and wrought upon the man,” and then he went forth across the waters. I imagine that same mysterious operation—being wrought upon—continues in different people, for different purposes.
God calls some people to genealogy: they are wrought upon by the Holy Spirit with an urgency to remember their ancestors.
God calls other people to memory-palace technology: they are wrought upon by the Holy Spirit with an urgency to remember things Jesus has said to them.
Greg = the latter.
Why memory-palace technology?
Generally, people can study the scriptures (remember God's words to them) without having to keep the specific words, concepts, and redeemed rock songs continually in remembrance. They can simply (open a book to) return to them months or even years later. But Jesus has wrought upon me to imagine that some people (like me), because of their earthly mission, may need to keep certain scriptures and writings in mind daily—or even continually. They must drill them in.
I imagine that in the latter days Jesus may choose certain people to become rememberers: people given particular words that they are supposed to carry with them and keep in remembrance. For them, remembering becomes part of their calling.
To do that, they may need an ancient technology of remembering: the memory palace—deliberately attaching important words, scriptures, and ideas to familiar places, things and images so they can be repeatedly revisited and remembered. Particularly interesting is the idea that a memory palace (memory temple) isn't primarily a way to memorize more information; it is a way to keep chosen things (things Jesus wants me to especially remember) continually present. That connects strongly with the scriptural language of remember, remember.
The idea that God distributes specific cognitive callings—appointing some to preserve familial lineages and others to act as living, active vaults of revelation—aligns deeply with the biblical pattern of spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12). Not every member of the body serves as the eye or the hand, and not every disciple is tasked with carrying the exact same internal architecture.
When Jesus draws someone into using spatial mnemotechnics like a memory palace to hold scriptures, direct impressions, and redeemed culture continuously in mind, it serves distinct spiritual and practical purposes within a divine calling:
Reasons for the Calling of a “Rememberer”
Real-Time Discernment and Readiness: Opening a book takes time; looking up a digital reference requires a device. In moments of high spiritual pressure, teaching, or sudden counsel, a "Rememberer" acts as an immediate channel. Having specific scriptures, concept-bridges, and redeemed art continuously stored in spatial memory means the Holy Spirit can cross-reference them instantly in real-time conversation.
A Living Sanctuary in Times of Loss: Throughout history, believers have faced periods where physical texts were restricted, confiscated, or inaccessible. Calling certain individuals to drill truth deep into their internal architecture ensures that the Word remains unshakeable, active, and present regardless of external circumstances.
Synthesis across Disparate Realms: A memory palace isn't just a filing cabinet; it is an interconnected ecosystem. By placing sacred text alongside redeemed rock songs and specific personal insights inside the same mental palace, your mind naturally maps connections between sacred truth and cultural artifacts. This allows you to speak to diverse audiences by translating divine principles through relatable, unexpected mediums.
The Weight of Intercession: Just as those called to genealogy carry the spiritual weight of connecting generations, those called to memory palaces carry the weight of holding specific truths active in the physical world through their continuous focus.
Living with this kind of internal urgency transforms memory from a simple utility into an act of ongoing stewardship—building a quiet, highly organized temple inside the mind where the divine word is kept burning continuously rather than stored away on a shelf.

The Spirit (of Jesus) \wrought upon me\ this morning and I think I understand what it (Jesus) is saying:
“Cheerios, Greg, Cheerios at church. I want you to start bringing exactly one Cheerio, or Toasty Oh! to sacrament meeting. Partaking of a single Cheerio each week will become part of our sacrament ritual. We will eat it after the Sacrament ordinance…when some child cries out or becomes restless (from excitement, we will imagine).
Yes, and we will rehearse this ritual during the week. I want you to put Cheerios in a medicine bottle and take one Cheerio in the morning and one Cheerio at night (when you take your other old man medicines).
Greg, the Cheerio is being hereby “set apart” in the Jesus-Greg WORLD in the JesusVerse.
It will represent the tomb in which my body was laid (the circular shape of the Cheerio reminding us of the round stone door that sealed the tomb…right up until the Oh!-it-is-wonderful surprise! of my resurrection.
In that tomb, Greg, we will imagine that we have a hidden library (like the stone-box library from which Joseph Smith checked out the golden plates which lay hidden deep in the mountain side).
In said tomb library we will put all of our many writings and recordings having to do with the Sacrament and Spirit Possession.
We will write upon the tomb door the following phrase:
“Oh! Wrought Upon”
That title will remind you, Greg, that one of the key secrets for watching (and understanding) the Jesus Show is realizing that (SURPRISE!) OH! …you (and others) are “wrought upon”, yes (SURPRISE) possessed by the Spirit of God---and alternatively “many other spirits” ---to think, feel, say and do certain things.
The tomb library will contain the word of God (i.e. personal scriptures)--- things that I, Jesus, have revealed to you, Greg, regarding the topic Spirit Possession and the Sacrament.
And for the weeks, months and years to come I have a new task to accomplish at each sacrament meeting I attend at church...

When I did #HearHim I think Jesus said something like:
“Yes, Greg. Cheerios. Surprise!”
Greg, “O!” / “Oh!” is naturally an exclamation of surprise, realization, or wonder. So Cheeri-O’s / Cheerios is what gives you and me some playful Jesus-WORLD possibilities that we will take into the most important room, the Sacrament ROOM: CHEER + O! \= Cheer + Surprise!
CHEERIOS = CHEERY “OH!”s — little circles of surprise/wonder. And visually, every Cheerio is literally an O. So a bowl of Cheerios could become a bowl full of: O! O! O! O! O! surprises from Jesus.
I like to believe that my imaginary friend is real…, and named Jesus…, and that He is the King of Kings. That belief makes me feel good---it feels virtuous, lovely, and of good report and praiseworthy.
I seek after these things. And when I do, it seems that there is a Spirit that “wroughts” upon me…leading me to do certain stuff.
It happened this morning. And this is what that Spirit did “wrought” upon me:
DEAR JOURNAL, Jesus has me increasingly interested in the scriptural idea that people are “wrought upon” by the Spirit of God—and sometimes by other spirits and influences that have to be discerned. I sense that there is a special reason this matters to me. The Spirit that wrought upon me in 2015 (when I got born again) has led me to think of my life, and increasingly the world around me, as something I am watching with Jesus. I call it the Jesus Show. Jesus calls it that too. I think. I imagine. I believe. Anyway, if you're going to understand a show, it helps to understand the rules of the world in which the show takes place. In the Jesus Show, not everything that moves the story can be seen. There are visible people, conversations, decisions, accidents, coincidences, ideas, inventions, songs, arguments, migrations, discoveries, impulses, and sudden changes of direction. But scripture repeatedly suggests that behind and within this visible activity there are also invisible forces at work. (Use the force, Luke. Watch the force, Luke.) People are prompted. People are tempted. People are inspired. People are warned. Ye, people are “wrought upon.”
You can't always see these forces directly. Often you have to discern them—and sometimes simply wonder, imagine, and make careful guesses about them. That makes watching the Jesus Show considerably more interesting. Something happens and I find myself asking:
What just moved that person?
What moved me?
Where did that idea come from?
What unseen influences might be operating here?
What is Jesus doing in this scene?
The Book of Mormon gives us a fascinating example. In 1 Nephi 13:12–13, it is almost as though scripture briefly pulls back the curtain and lets us see something that the people inside the story could not necessarily see:
«“The Spirit of God… came down and wrought upon the man.”»
The man is generally understood to be Christopher Columbus. And then Columbus moves. He crosses the waters. The Book of Mormon suggests that the Pilgrims did the same, for the same reason. They were “wrought upon”. That phrase—“wrought upon”—interests me enormously. To be wrought upon is to be worked upon, influenced, stirred, moved, prompted, shaped. Something invisible happens within a person, and eventually something visible happens in the world. But here is the question Jesus has me wondering about: What if “wrought upon” is not an exceptional operation reserved for exceptional historical figures?
What if it is one of God's ordinary ways of working in the human family?
(A still small voice seems to ask me, ‘Greg, if this is so, why wouldn’t religious people use this wrought-upon language and explanation and this wording more than they do?’ Put a pin in that.) Scripture says that “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). That doesn't mean everybody receives the same assignment, the same revelation, the same gifts, or the same degree of divine influence. Columbus may have had a particular role in a particular historical moment. Pilgrims too. But the operation itself need not have been unique. Perhaps Columbus is simply a particularly conspicuous example of something ubiquitous. One person feels strangely compelled to cross an ocean. Another person (say, Axl Rose) feels compelled to write a song. Years later another person (say, Greg Muller) feels drawn to redeem---put MORE Jesus in said song.
Someone suddenly thinks to call a friend.
A scientist becomes obsessed with a question. A mother senses that her child needs her. An artist sees something nobody else sees yet.
Someone inexplicably changes direction.
Someone gets an idea that eventually blesses millions of people.
And most of the time there isn't a narrator standing outside the scene saying:
“The Spirit of God wrought upon this person.”
We just see the person move. That possibility fascinates me. Indeed, encourages me.
Maybe some portion of this enormous sea of human prompting, intuition, creativity, conscience, curiosity, desire, imagination, inspiration, and sudden movement is the Spirit of God wroughting upon humanity. That doesn't mean every impulse comes from God (“I think I’ll have a 3rd Snickers bar, it really satisfies”).
That is precisely why discernment becomes part of understanding the Jesus Show. (“Well, on second thought, maybe an apple instead.”) Scripture describes competing influences. People can be prompted toward good and tempted toward evil. We can misunderstand what we feel. We can mix inspiration with ego, fear, appetite, habit, culture, imagination, and ordinary human thinking. Sometimes what looks like divine orchestration may simply be coincidence. Sometimes we may never know. So when I say that being “wrought upon” might be ubiquitous, I don't mean (and I don’t think Jesus means): Every thought is God. I (we) mean something more interesting: God's activity may be ubiquitous. He may be moving in and through ordinary people far more frequently than we recognize (if Jesus tells you to, see Alma 34:34). And that changes the way I watch the show. Columbus isn't interesting merely because the Spirit wrought upon Columbus. Columbus is interesting because scripture tells us that the Spirit wrought upon Columbus. For a few verses, the curtain gets pulled back. We don't merely see Columbus deciding to sail. We are given an interpretation of something happening behind the visible action. Perhaps that is the extraordinary thing. Maybe the unusual part isn't that God moved Columbus. Maybe the unusual part is that, in this particular scene, the narrator tells us that He did. And if that is true, Columbus becomes more than a historical example. He becomes a clue about how the Jesus Show works. It makes me look around at all the ordinary scenes unfolding every day and wonder:
Who is being wrought upon right now?
The songwriter?
The scientist?
The neighbor?
The stranger?
The weird guy who says, “You are watching Jesus TV”?
The person who suddenly decides to help somebody?
The person who wakes up with an idea?
The person who unexpectedly changes course?
Me?
And perhaps the biggest question of all: How many times every day is the Spirit of God “wroughting upon” ordinary people—and nobody writes a scripture identifying it as such? Maybe part of learning to watch the Jesus Show is learning to watch for exactly that. Truthfully, I think I’m going to like to believe that.
I think Jesus likes when I believe that.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.
I feel “wrought upon” by a good good Spirit to believe that.
But we’ll see. It’s a show.
The show must go on. Tune into Jesus TV, where the show is always, always, always on.

In scriptural language, “wrought upon” is the larger, more vivid phrase. To be wrought upon is not merely to receive information. Something is working upon you—stirring, drawing, awakening, troubling, softening, illuminating, prompting, or moving you toward action.
So Jesus would probably have me arrange the vocabulary something like this:
The Spirit invited him.
The Spirit enticed him.
The Spirit persuaded him.
The Spirit prompted him.
The Spirit stirred him.
The Spirit moved him.
The Spirit opened his understanding.
The Spirit worked upon his heart.
And then—the man chose.
That last part is important to the LDS conception Jesus and I are working with here. “Wrought upon” does not necessarily mean “controlled.” It can describe a powerful influence that nevertheless leaves room for agency.
A particularly good example is 1 Nephi 13:12. Nephi sees “a man among the Gentiles” and says:
“the Spirit of God came down and wrought upon the man; and he went forth upon the many waters…”
Jesus wants me to notice the sequence:
That's remarkably close to the Nephi formulation:
And Moroni 7 gives me something like the mechanics of being wrought upon. Mormon repeatedly speaks of that which “inviteth and enticeth to do good” and “persuadeth to believe in Christ.” Moroni 7
So Jesus is wroughting upon me to build a very useful distinction:
And this makes the earlier interest Jesus wrought upon me—my interest in other spirits and influences—especially important. Scripture doesn't merely present human beings as isolated rational actors manufacturing every thought and desire internally. It presents people as creatures who can be acted upon, enticed, persuaded, tempted, inspired, stirred, prompted, and wrought upon—while remaining morally responsible for discerning and choosing what they will follow.
I think I can hear Jesus saying something like:
“Greg, Jesus TV can be watched at varying levels of clarity. To see certain miraculous things on Jesus TV, you will need to believe/imagine THE TRUTH that the Holy Spirit can—and does—wrought upon persons.
That assumption is key to entering a sacred imaginary (i.e. spiritual) realm that is real.
This is done in the temple. It can be done anywhere—with practice. Belief practice.”
Jesus has wrought upon me here to formulate a compact formula for the Jesus Show:
And perhaps an even more interesting question for My Jesus Project:
“What is wrought upon me—and what do I do when I notice it?”

To be wrought upon is, in the peculiar language Jesus and I are developing (for my personal use), to be possessed—or nearly possessed—by an influence: worked upon, stirred, moved, prompted, shaped. Possession does not necessarily mean control. A spirit—good or bad—can possess, influence, invite, entice, persuade, and move a person—and then the person chooses.
